Recently I have got myself the MPPS V16
ECU programmer tool to play with. As it turned out, with right
installation it is possible, contrary to the popular belief, to get it
working with as many car as possible. So, I decided to share the
instructions, which hopefully is helpful to someone.
Equipment:
MPPS V16 ECU Chip Tuning
for EDC15 EDC16 EDC17. I bought mine from OBD365 79USD. The tool was
shipped by DHL, arrived 10 days after I ordered it. It came with a 16
pin connector, and a mini CD with drivers and software. Mine was
advertised as "Newest version for EDC15 EDC16 EDC17 inkl CHECKSUM". The
"newest" refers to the version of bundled software rather than the
firmware.
A laptop running Windows XP sp2. If you do not have Windows
XP, you can ask the seller for the software. The tool can only work on
XP system.
The content of bundled CD:
The MPPS V16 software can also be found on the internet as well:
Installation steps:
Step
1: Plug the 16pin connector into cars OBD port, which usually locates
under dashboard on the drivers side, and connect its USB cable to the
laptop.
Step 2: Put MPPS V16 CD into your computer, and open the new disk.
Step 3: Install MPPS update file.
1) Run MPPS update file
2) Select the language
3)
Click "Next" and accept the terms of licensee agreement. Wait a few
minutes and let the computer receive system information and install
autoupdator.exe.
4) Click "Finish".
Step 4: Copy "loader" in the CD and paste it to the desktop
Step 5: Delete the shortcut "MPPS" on the desktop.
Step 6: Complete the Found New Hardware Wizard
1) Open "Found New Hardware Wizard" window.
2) Follow the instructions.
3) Finish installation of software for "Amt Flash"
Step 7: Make sure MPPS driver is successfully installed
Click
"My Computer" – "Manage" – "Device Manager" – "Universal Serial Bus
controllers". If you see “Amt Flash”, it means the driver is
successfully installed.
Step 8: Open the MPPS application software.
1) Open "loader"
2) Choose from Local Disk (C), open the file folder "MPPS", choose MPPS
3) Select Language, car Make, car Model and ECU type.
4) Click "EDC ID (F1)".
5) Click "Read".
6) Click "Write".
Note on installation:
Disable
or close the anti-virus software on the laptop before installing the
software. The software is virus-free, but could be damaged by anti-virus
software by accident.
Performance:
I have tested the tool
on an Audi A3 with 1.0L Bosch ME7.1 K Line and 10 other vehicles with
EDC16, EDC17, MED9.x, Siemens PPD1 / x, EDC15 and ME7 chip, all work ok.
Advantage:
After
playing more, I find this MPPS V16 is quite user-friendly as it needs
no chip soldering, which is very easy to operate to those users who are
not familiar with soldering technique. Besides, it is available with
more languages than other ECU programmers such as KWP2000 plus.
Note:
It supports Windows XP only. It would be better if it can work on Win7 and Win8.
